	في ثورة تكنولوجبا المعلومات وتناقل المعلومات بصورة سربعة ظهرت الحاجة الى محركات البحث .ولقد قامت مجموعة من طلاب جامعة ستانفورد بتطوير محرك البحت قوقل الذي تحول الى محرك البحش الاقوى في العالم اذ ان 60% من مستخدمي شبكة الانترنيت يستخدمون محرك البحث قوقل للحصول على المعلومة .و 22% يستخدمون محرك البحث الخاص بشركة ياهو و12% يستخدمون محرك البحث التابع لشركة مايكروسفت اما ينقسم الباقي بين محركات بحث مختلفة. وهذا ادى الى زيادة التنافس بين مطوري صفحات الانترنيت للحصول على ترتيب افضل في كلمات بحث مختلقة
